In the beginning there was nothing. From that nothingness was born a self thought : The First Consciousness. Within this consciousness appeared a dream. In that dream appeared a Golden Egg called Hriranyagarbh. In that egg appeared the first cosmic waters of the world called Anant Sagar (Infinite Ocean). In the silence of those calm waters appeared a golden seed. As the seed broke open there appeared a bright light which soon turned into a tiny child. As the child grew he took a shape of a four armed man. Floating on the waters of Anant Sagar thus appeared the first Vishnu. ‘Vish’ means all pervader ‘nu’ means worker. Vishnu, the omnipresent, eternal maintainer of the world.

Vishnu lying on the surface of Anant Sagar closes his eyes and in his dream appears a lotus stem rising from his belly button. As the stem reaches up in the sky there appears a lotus. As the leaves of the lotus peels open there appears another golden seed. This seed forms another child who transforms into a single head Brahma.

As this newly born Brahma opens his eye slowly there begins to appear forms, matter, light, darkness and all that is there in the world. From the opening of his eyes are made all the universes and realities beyond these universes and all this seems to him nothing but a dream. The world is thus nothing but a day dreaming of Brahma with his open eyes. As he shuts his eyes to blink the universes and all the realities beyond it disappears only to be created again as his eyes open.

In one of such dreams of one of the Brahmas appears this earth and all its humans, animals and nature. That period of Brahma’s dream is called Treta Yuga
