Titania Sleeps 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' (1928) | Frank Cadogan Cowper | Painting Art Print | Wall Frame
In A Midsummer Night's Dream, Frank Cadogan Cowper illustrated Titania Sleeps in 1928.
Titania's sleep is described as "lull'd in these flowers with dances and delight". Puck's words refer to her flowery bed, but also to her romps with the fairies.
In the play, Titania sleeps in her bower with Bottom, a changeling boy who has been given the head of a donkey by Robin Goodfellow. Oberon uses an antidote to lift the love spell that made Titania fall in love with Bottom, and she wakes up no longer in love with him.
