Collector's item: "The Gadget," the first atomic bomb, was designed and assembled at the Los Alamos National Laboratory during World War II. It was a plutonium implosion bomb, designed to be detonated using conventional explosives to compress a plutonium core, triggering a nuclear chain reaction. The test, codenamed "Trinity," took place on July 16, 1945, in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
