Del Rey's switching of inspirations to the decadent sounds 70s rock for singing about excruciating emotions is not new- which indie movie doesn't have tense rock songs (deceptively low on loud distorted guitars) playing while the damaged protagonist descends to a world of insanity and addictions? But Del Rey takes away the pretension from it- she explains what's going on in her head without complicating it too much or leaving too much to interpretation or speculation.
